Nerja Beach guides, nearby beaches and live sea conditions

About Nerja and its coastline

Nerja sits on the eastern side of Málaga province, where the Costa del Sol begins to transition towards the more rugged coastal scenery closer to Granada. That setting explains much of the town’s beach appeal.

Why the coastline is so varied

The cliffs, the old town position above the sea and the transition from urban shoreline to protected natural areas give Nerja much more visual variety than many beach towns with a single continuous frontage.

This is also why the beach experience changes quickly from one area to another. A beach below the old town can feel compact and scenic, while another just a little farther away can feel open, practical or almost wild.

Good base for the Axarquía and Costa Tropical

Nerja works well as a base for exploring both sides of the provincial boundary. Westward, the Axarquía offers practical beach towns and a slower rhythm. Eastward, the coast towards La Herradura and Cantarriján brings dramatic scenery and clear-water coves.
